I am a professional saxophone and woodwind player with a span of 32 years experience performing as well as teaching saxophone to select individuals when time permits.
As a student years ago, I studied privately with Nick Anaise, a former member of the United States Navy Jazz Band as well as John "Gunner" Mossblad, Professor of Saxophone and Jazz Studies at James Madison University and former lead tenor saxophonist with the Woody Herman Big Band. I was also a regular attendee and performer at the Stan Kenton Jazz Clinics under Hank Levy held at Towson State University in Baltimore MD.
The saxophone is a unique and versatile instrument capable of producing a variety of sounds and tones. I strive to help anyone I teach to work on developing their own individual sound and playing style.
Based on a students level, needs, and expectations, I will cover embouchure, learning notes, keys, alternate keying, chord & scale studies, and learning to read music. Advanced instruction can include jazz technique, improvisation, altissimo-range studies, music theory, and live-performance tips & tricks. |
