Additional Info: Recognized as a 'teacher of Distinction' by the Royal Conservatory of Music in 2018, Tina has over 10 years of teaching experience, conducting private lessons on piano, saxophone, clarinet and theory.
Tina is on the faculty at the Vancouver Academy of Music as a saxophone instructor and the co-director for the VAM saxophone ensemble program. She also teaches out of her own studio, Phoenix Music Academy which was established in late 2014, which runs out of Wayland Sports, a sports school for children ranging 3 to 18 years old. Her studio has formed student based saxophone chamber groups which ran since 2015. The ensemble consisted of several young avid elementary and high school musicians that participates in community performances as well as music festivals and competitions. Tina works with students of all ages and levels from all over Greater Vancouver. Her students have achieved high placements and recognition in their own schools as well as in local and national music competitions and festivals as well as successful auditions for the British Columbia Honour Band, the National Youth Band of Canada, Tanglewood Music Institute, and Interlochen World Youth Wind Ensemble. Her students also have successful auditions and applications to University programs such as University of British Columbia, New York University, and other university music programs. Tina is also a clinician in some of the local elementary and high school programs.
Tina has taught students ranging from toddlers through to adults, from beginners to pre-college level. Tina specializes in classical but also teaches pop and jazz. She is a registered teacher with RCM and BCRMTA - richmond branch and is proud of achieving a 100% pass rate in all exams, most achieving first class honours and some achieved medals in grade levels. Students have achieved high placements and recognition in their own schools as well as in local music competitions and festivals as well as successful auditions for the British Columbia Honour Band, the National Youth Band of Canada, Tanglewood Music Institute, and Interlochen World Youth Wind Ensemble. Her students also have successful auditions and applications to University programs such as University of British Columbia, New York University, and others.
Coming from a family line of educators, Tina is passionate about music and loves working with students of all ages. She is able to teach students how to understand music at a deep level and sharing their experience with others. She believes in well roundedness and setting strong fundamental instrument technique, musicianship, and music theory. Her goal is to instill in students a lasting appreciation and joy for understanding the art of music. Tina believes that learning how to practice smart is the paramount to success and happiness in musical pursuits. Each student has different needs, learning approach and capabilities. As a teacher, being able to understand students fully and to teach them to the best of their abilities helps them become better musicians. At the same time, one also grow as a teacher, which is key to teaching students better. As they learn, they explore their interest in different music styles and/or certain songs to keeping their interest going.
Tina enjoys developing and sharing her love of music to provide good music education and preparing them to be well-rounded for universities. She forms close bonds with her students as she works with them in all aspects ranging from performance etiquette, musicianship, as well as accompanying them on the piano for their exams and festivals. Tina works with students of all ages and levels from all over Greater Vancouver and has experience as a clinician among elementary and high schools.
Fees: $ 65.00 Canadian Dollars Per Hour
